4’33” – Music
4’33”… John Cage’s most famous and most controversial piece. Is it music? Is it noise? I say it’s music! For those of you who aren’t familiar with this piece, it’s a three movement piece. The whole time, not a single note is played on the piano. The performer sits at the piano and closes the keyboard lid, which marks the beginning of the piece. After thirty seconds, the keyboard lid is then opened to signify the end of the first movement. This process is repeated for the second and third movements. The second movement is two minutes and twenty-three seconds, and the third is one minute and forty seconds.
