I don’t even have words to describe how much I loved reading this book. I’m not usually a fan of non-fiction, but when I got my hands on this novel, I couldn’t stop.
Go read The Cellist of Sarajevo. It’s beautifully written and although it is considered fiction, was inspired by fact.
The novel takes place during the Siege of Sarajevo during the 1990’s and follows the stories of four dynamic characters. The first, of course, is the cellist. After watching a bomb fall on 22 unsuspecting victims, he vows to bear witness by sitting where the mortar fell and play Albinoni’s Adagio once a day for 22 days. They were only in line for bread. Unbeknownst to him, he is watched by many, but none as closely as “Arrow”, a gifted and young, female sniper. Chosen to be the counter sniper to keep him safe, she is always on edge and searching for the enemy sharp shooter and the danger he poses.
